About Minimally Invasive Surgery

Laparoscopy accesses the abdominal and pelvic cavity through small incisions in the abdomen, using a camera and surgical instruments. Hysteroscopy accesses the inside of the uterus through the cervix — no incisions are required. The appropriate procedure depends on the condition being treated.

Recovery varies by procedure. Most patients return to light activity within a few days and full activity within 1–4 weeks. Your provider will give you specific recovery instructions based on your procedure.

Laparoscopic procedures are typically performed under general anesthesia. Hysteroscopic procedures may be performed under general anesthesia or with local anesthesia and sedation depending on the complexity. Your provider and the surgical team will discuss anesthesia options with you.

Surgery is recommended only when conservative treatments have not resolved your condition, when a diagnosis requires direct visualization, or when your symptoms are significantly impacting your quality of life. Your Pristine Ob-Gyn provider will walk you through all options before any surgical recommendation is made.
